Tammy Achziger was recently appointed to the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee by S.C. Speaker of the House G. Murrell Smith Jr. as his educator appointee.
Achziger will replace Dr. Bob Couch who recently retired from the EOC after ten years of service.
A Sumter resident, Achziger worked for 11 years as a Production Manager at Craig Industries and 23 years in South Carolina public schools as an educator and administrator.
"I am honored to serve on the SC Education Oversight Committee and am committed to ensuring that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in an ever changing world." Achziger said. "As both a teacher and an administrator, I have seen the incredible potential of our students and the importance of having systems in place that support their learning and growth."
The South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC) is an independent, non-partisan group consisting of 18 educators, businesspeople, and elected officials appointed by the Governor and General Assembly. The EOC is charged with encouraging continuous improvement in SC public schools, approving academic content standards and assessments, overseeing the implementation of the state’s educational accountability system, and documenting improvements in education.
